Haboro is in Hokkaido, Japan, and supposedly abandoned, though this must have happened fairly recently, or the abandoned reference is only to a portion of it? Josh and Crew are off hunting ghosts again…IF Robb leaves GHI, maybe DT can take over it's function as international ghost hunters, they seem to be splaying off in that direction lately. Haboro was a mining town with supposed slave laborers etc which should create some disturbances in the paranormal force and I'm certain we'll hear Josh yelling/screaming a few trademark "there there theres" or possibly a "go go go"

Then, the team goes back to Africa…or, rather, they probably hang around after the Hyena episode and film this one so as to save travel money. This time they are in Tanzania looking for the Mngwa (sometimes known as the Nunda), which means something like "the strange one" (so THAT'S what those people were chanting at me the other day)

The Mngwa is sometimes described as a gray cat-like creature. Some have speculated it to be a lion or leopard, although it supposedly has been mentioned along with them in native song going back to the 1100s which describes it along with Simba and Nsui, those other two animals, respectively, indicating that the natives recognized and knew the differences between the two and that the Mngwa was a third animal. Possibly a lion/leopard/boar hybrid :)

Will Vanessa be left alone again (with a cameraman) to be eaten? Will we get to see some more cute lion cubs? Will they waste a quarter of the episode making a protective hat out of a T'singi shrub?

I have to admit, I had to give Josh Gates points for doing a SyFy promo for "Sharktopus."

Here's a very poor quality version of the ad that I found on Youtube:

If any of you are into REALLY bad movies and/or Mystery Science Theatre 3000…then Sharktopus is for you.  I believe it will be on the same level as "Merlin's Shop of Mystical Wonders" and "The Killer Shrews."  It airs on Saturday night (check your local listings) and Josh will be hosting it.

As for tonight's show…more ghosts.  Great…I think I'm buying Sharktopus before I'm buying those images on the FLIR in the past couple of shows…

Bad quality? That wasn't too much worse than GH using a production camera shot of a tv screen showing footage of something walking in a records room rather than using the actual footage straight! lol

As for tonight's episode, I certainly hope this doesn't entail a meeting with the "Experts" I have to say I'm more looking forward to the Mngwa (that's mingwah if you actually want to say it to someone) than I am the ghosts. The "Ghost" episodes always seem to be a little flat to me.

Me too.  I may make fun of DT…but really, I give them all the credit in the world for walking around in a dark jungle armed with only a FLIR and either a "smart" scarf or the culture-appropriate hat.

As for what it is…there are so many varieties of large cats that could have mutated to a particular color that I personally would have passed on this one.  Unless they're bringing a large cat expert along with them, I don't see much of a point because I can't see a blurry picture, a "white blotch" on a FLIR image, or a concrete paw track being of much use.  I guess we'll see…

True, guess it will depend upon the evidence they catch…the hyena was a pretty good match during their last one, but this one could be a bit more tricky depending upon the drawings they use lol. Every so often you get some animal that ends up being a different color so it could easily be something like that. At least the places are a bit more distinct, even in the dark, to me. A lot different than some hall or sitting room which all seem to look alike to me after a while. I think Josh is reading his narration, but he does it a lot more enthusiastically, too.

Okay, let me get this straight. Japanese ghosts speak Japanese, but Cambodian ghosts say things like "Yes" and "Keep Off"? Just want to make sure I understand.

Did anyone find this statement by Josh at Haboro a bit odd:

I just heard something up here, "for real"

Does that imply all the other sounds they hear (which honestly I didn't hear, like doors slamming etc) are not real?

Hmmm…not sure.  Maybe.  I'll check it out again.  I want to take another gander at that FLIR image anyway.

Maybe they were still joking around about the bear at the time and Josh wanted them to focus and shut up?  I mean the team has shown a tendency to carry on so…I can see him trying to reign them in a bit.

Good catch though.  I'll definitely check that out…

That statement does happen very soon after the BEAR!! so it's possible. I can't really imagine a nefarious "for real" being slipped in but stranger things have happened. Quite likely innocent but was just really odd when I heard it. Sort of like Jason hearing a sound, Grant asking if he's serious, Jason saying yes and Grant saying Really?

Here's another odd one:

Mike: The K2 meter's moving.
Josh: It shouldn't be moving at all (I think that's what he says)
Josh: There's no electricity in this building and we've accounted for all our gear.

With a K2, how do you account for all your gear? It's not like you can do like in Star Trek – Court Martial and go around and get each person's heart beat and then cancel that out of the noise so that the one beat left is the person who was hidden. What I mean is there is no way to subtract out the signature of each of the pieces of gear so that any lights are definitely something else.

Interesting that when you see it lighting up, there is a camera RIGHT ON TOP of it.

Big props on being a MST3k fan and mentioning one of my favorite movies that they spoofed in "Merlins shop of mystical wonders". Monkey Cymbals! 'nuff said.lol

As for this episode, I enjoyed it but I am always left scratching my head when they get English responses to EVP sessions while in Japan or other various non English peaking regions. Am I the only one though that thinks that the 2 new guys they always send off by themselves this season is gearing up for some kind of spinoff? They seem to be always paired up and always getting a lot of air time and it just screams "SyFy has another paranormal show planned for you two."
