So this is probably an odd thought, or perhaps something that has been brought up before:
I'm always curious if the newspaper clippings they show at the beginning of each case are real. Ya know, the scene in the headquarters where they're drawing on the chalkboard and clicking through the internet and conducting their various methods of research. Josh glares, pondering, at a newspaper headline that says EL CHUPACABRA IS REAL or THIS PLACE IS TOTALLY HAUNTED. Okay, sort of. But you get my drift. I always wonder what newspapers they're from, who wrote them, and some of the articles are really long!
Anybody have the same thought as they're watching? :)
By the way, I decided that if I ever get a dog, I'll name it El Chupacabra, or Choopy for short. Josh Gates would be proud.

Hmmm…interesting…
I pulled up a random recent episode and took a look. If you go to (1:54), Josh is holding a couple pieces of paper:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v…..A9DAB9A2F9
One of them has a heading of "Bangkok Trib." There is an actual Bangkok Tribune. I didn't track the specific articles.
So the newspaper clippings may be real in the sense that they are actual articles from various newspapers. However, it looks like the physical copy is found on a computer, re-sized and printed out using some stock white paper. And to give it a "used look"…the edges are frayed. Why do they do that? Not sure…aesthetics?
This is just one episode. If anyone finds any weirdness…please share…

I think there was a discussion about this here a few years ago. Some of them are legit and some there is no banner or anything, just a story (does a lot for provenance and credibility, no?) A number that I've seen I've been able to find, but yes they are doctored up physically to make them look older or more ragged etc. I think it's all for "effect"
Which would fit the character of this show better? A nice glossy 8.5x11 printed out on white paper with straight edges or something that looks like it was ripped from an old newspaper?

Ah, yes. I am a big fan of the "frayed" look. I used to have the cool scissors with the different patterns (zig-zags, squigglies) used for scrapbooking and one of them was the "frayed" look. Wonder if they have a pair handy!
Also, Revenant, thanks for the bit of research.
