New season starts 17 March 2011 (St Patrick's day like last year) Maybe THAT'S why they moved to Thursdays. I wonder if they will move to Saturday's for the season following this one.
Anyway, this season opener is going to be a bit different for DT. They are going after Banshees in Ireland as part of a St Patrick's day theme but they will supposedly be doing it LIVE. I really hope that turnabout isn't fair play and GH or GHI doesn't join them. Same time as usual which they would be able to do with a night-time investigation even with the time difference…they'll just have to start after midnight local time.

A LIVE season opener for DT? Wasn't expecting to hear that! It has to be more interesting than all of the GH ones (albeit for the 08 one, I love watching a fraud collapse). Where it is in Ireland I bet the GHI team will be involved or if nothing else Barry will be.

I'll be honest, after reading somewhere that DT's ratings were so low that SyFy didn't even post them, I was just wondering if they would be coming back. A live show is a great concept and is sure to get people watching. They're also fun as, like we've seen with GH, there is only so much control people have over what is happening. There is no "second take", so there's always the possibility that the audience will get to see something that isn't intended to be seen, or that is just plain funny, or both. This should be good!
The legend of the Banshee is certainly quite interesting. All in all, a good way to kick off the series. Any word on who is in the cast?

Well, it appears that Barry will be reprising his role as the Irish Tour Guide.

I've heard of Duckett's Grove Castle and Simon Marsden in one of his books has a photo of it.This looks like it will be a pretty good show, and throwing in banshees has got to be better than some of the live GH ones for sure.
Since there has been cross overs with Josh and GH and GHI, was wondering if they might be going to Leap Castle or the Lisheen ruins . Would be interesting if DT were to go to the Hellfire Caves like GH did on their first overseas trip, before the founding of GHI.

Oubliette, your post made me curious. I searched for their ratings, and at least last season's premiere set a record for he show?

I saw other articles that claimed Season 3 ratings had some of the highest ever. If indeed the ratings plummeted over the season, I wonder if all the GH crossovers were to blame. But I cannot find any evidence that ratings were down, all I saw were stories of increased ratings. Just FYI.

All you have to do is look at the actual ratings and trend them:
(in millions of viewers) Note, dipping under a million viewers is not considered a good thing in the ratings game!

Ouch. That's why I didn't find any articles about late season ratings. Now, back to my question. What effect, if any, did all the GH crossovers/ghost hunts have? I quit watching DT this year simply because I was sick of ghosts and because their "evidence" review became more shoddy.

Nosfer, sorry. I went and checked the episode guide for DT, those show you listed are the ones with ghost hunts in them. There was one episode that season that did not involve ghost hunts. Do you have those ratings too? Oct 7th?

Hard to say, the one that got the most viewers this "half season" was the Pompeii one which was a GH crossover, but it was also the half-season premier. Those usually have higher ratings which then taper down in an inverse bell and pop up a bit for the season finale which is what happened here.
Ghost Fleet was a GH crossover also (aired on 30 Sep) and was the third lowest (out of 7 shown)
Their lowest one was the much-hyped Siberian Snowman (07 Oct)
What you also have to consider is whether people don't watch because of the crossover, or do they watch that unknowing that it IS a crossover and tune out the FOLLOWING week?
If you consider the FOLLOWING being the impact, then the lowest one (the Siberian Snowman) immediately followed a crossover episode.

I edited the ratings post and the above post to reflect air dates rather than ratings report dates. The Oct 7th was The Siberian Snowman (not a "ghost" episode), which was not a crossover and it had the lowest ratings.
No ratings for the Ghosts of Menengai Crater/Kalanoro episode making me think they may have been so low as to not make the cut?

What we do know is this, March 17 was one of their highest rated shows ever. And that followed a season where the GH crossovers started, including such eps as the Haunted Forest in Romania, the Island of the Dolls, the Ghosts of Chernobyl and the GHI crowwover in Peru (I looked back through the episode guide and was surprised at how far back these GH ghost hunts go). Those eps go back into the glory days of ratings for DT. So I guess the crossovers aren't the problem. Perhaps DT is just the hardest hit by the overall decline in ratings for these shows (well, I guess MonsterQuest was the hardest hit, it was cancelled).

Probably is more that the formula has become stale and people like new things (novelty has worn off). GH started out Season 6 with over 2.4 million and the recent Season 7 premier was only 1.745 million. Be interesting to see what the DT Live Show garners since it will be both a Live Show and a Season Premier. Whether or not there will be a Season 5 will depend upon it.
Note: SciFi has decided that this is not the new season, this is the start of the second half of Season 4.

As I feared, Kris Williams will be joining the Live Show. And to bring back one of the former DT members, Jael will be taking part representing FoF.
