  • GH: USS Hornet

The USS Hornet is a WWII Aircraft Carrier, and as such it both has a rich history (including many lost lives both on board and caused by those on board) and was much anticipated simply because it's an enormous piece of hardware and stuff like that fascinates geeks like us. (…)

  • Halloween with… Ghost Adventures?

The Travel Channel is pushing heavily for exposure on their new "Ghost Adventures" show.  The channel may not have the greatest street-cred in the paranormal community (*cough* Most Hauxted *cough*) but I was impressed when I saw the two-hour "Ghost Adventures" documentary, which offered up a fresh type of investigation where the investigators are the only ones on-site (no camera or audio crew, just a couple of guys with camcorders) and the evidence consists of things we can actually see and hear on the recordings. • GH: LeBlanc House

I didn't find this investigation very noteworthy and I wasn't really sure what to say about it. (…)

  • GH: Theodores' & Smith's

For all you Steve Gonsalves groupies out there, did you know he was in a band?  Supah!  Yep, he's a drummer and apparently one place his bad has played is a bar/pool hall called Theodores' & Smith's.  Steve hangs there weekly (although probably not for much longer now that this has hit the airwaves!) and over the time he's spent there a lot of folks have told him stories about paranormal activity they've witnessed there. (…)

  • GH: Marjim Manor

The Winery at Marjim Manor was a 2nd-halfer, meaning it caught the tail-end of a Ghost Hunters episode, however unlike any 2nd-halfer I recall it was actually longer in airtime than the primary investigation. (…)

  • GH: Tracy House

Most TAPS investigations can be reasonably pigeonholed into one of only four or five categories. (…)

  • GH: Waverly Hills Sanatorium (WHS)

Hey everyone, Patrick here, and this is my first article for Skeptical Viewer.  I have been talking to Logisti about doing a review of this episode for a couple reasons.  First, I am from and still do live in Louisville.  Second, as luck would have it, my wife and I did the WHS ghost tour one Friday night a couple/few years ago.  Coincidentally, it was the Friday that TAPS wrapped up their investigation of WHS.  I had just started watching the show, and joked to our guide at one point in the tour that they should have TAPS come down for an investigation.  He said that they had been there the previous 2 nights, and had come back that morning for some reason.  He didn't know why for sure, but said they had "found something" and wanted to do a couple more tests.  I watched the show when it originally aired, and again the other night when it was the lead-in episode to the new one, and still don't know what they were testing or what they found that would have required a morning visit.  Knowing what we know now, perhaps it was just re-filming of filler sections and such. • GH: Renaissance Vinoy Resort

My notes for this second-halfer are short and consist of the following:

The Renaissance Vinoy Resort Hotel is in St. Petersburg, Florida and is often frequented by professional baseball players. (…)

Ocala Florida's Seven Sisters Inn consists of two buildings: a Purple House and a Pink House. (…)

  • GH: A Note to the Producers

In the investigations that aired in this week's episode the Ghost Hunters show up again without Kristyn Garland and Joe Chin. (…)

  • GH: Stiteler House

When I think of Groton, Connecticut I think of one thing: Submarines.  The first nuclear powered submarine, the USS Nautilus (named for Captain Nemo's fictional submarine of amazing awesomeness in 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea) is on display along with an array spanning the breadth of modern submarine history.  If you live within driving distance you might want to check it out, along with nearby (relatively) Mystic, its historic seaport and other (more touristy) attractions. • GH: Carriage Inn

Hoof Fin Feathers Carriage Inn is a heck of an odd name and I'm still not sure if I got it right, but the boys from TAPS called it the Carriage Inn for short and I will follow suit. (…)

  • GH: Pettibone Tavern

The intrepid investigators from TAPS are still not wearing helmet cams (I keep having to re-watch Aliens to get my fill of helmet-cam footage) but the folks at Pilgrim may actually be listening on some level because this "second-halfer" investigation started with about 25 minutes left in the episode instead of the normal 15-20.  That doesn't mean they found something, but it does prove that finding nothing doesn't have to feel rushed and pointless to make decent television. (…)

  • GH: Slater Mill

This week the intrepid investigators we all know and love visited the Pawtucket Patriot Brewery.  What's that?  I'm sorry, I'm being told I've confused Ghost Hunters with a classic Family Guy episode.  In fact, our favorite ghost hunters did go to Pawtucket, but to investigate Slater Mill, an 18th century textile factory formerly the site of emplyoment for up to nine children at a time. (…)

  • GH: Iron Island Museum

With a few strong investigations under their belt, the GHI team promptly racked up disappointments and frustrated their viewers to an incredible extent.  The return of more Ghost Hunters episodes with investigations conducted by the original TAPS team we've come to know (and love?) was always going to be something to look forward to, but I couldn't have imagined just how much I'd been looking forward to it until I actually saw the credits rolling. • PS: Haunted Ranch

In this investigation the PRS team visits a family that owns a small ranch and has been experiencing some bizarre and frightful things.  Not one but two horses were killed by mean unknown.  One of them had a deep wound in its side, broken ribs and a punctured lung.  The husband said one day he found his dog hanging by its leash.  My initial gut feeling on hearing these horrible events recounted was that one of his neighbors might be trying to drive the family away, but if that was a serious possibility it certainly wasn't mentioned. (…)
