Down at the slaughter house they were looking for a couple of people that were killed in fights. Then I'm thinking, it's an animal slaughter house, shouldn't there be blood curdling EVP's of "oink" and "moo" ?

Speaking of the slaughterhouse, Robb says …

"So paranormal activity if there is any here is occuring because of prisoner deaths, this would be the place where you want to be."

That statement doesn't make a lot of sense, but it seems he's already decided on the cause without even knowing if there is any occurance …

Ghost folks….and, honestly, most religious folks who believe in the whole "soul" thing don't like to look at the conundrum of: Having evolved from monkey like creatures, at approximately what point did humans "evolve" a soul, or a …"thingy" that allowed them, post-mortem to be a cash cow for Ghost Hunters? Do animals have "soul thingies" in any capacity? And if so, to what degree? Half a soul, a quarter of a soul? Perhaps they just havea much more limited "shelf life" for haunting….

I'm not completely ready to say all "ghost" type phenomena is fake/not real, but I'm very sure it's _not_ the consciousness of something that is dead. The dead would have better things to do, and more interesting things to talk about, I think.

At about 29 minutes in, there is a shot of a recorder on a table, with Robb off in the background … anyone able to identify that white piece of gear on the table with the mike ? White noise generator ?

Yes, most religions, not least christianity do discard the idea of animals having souls, that is for humans only, since we are made in the image of God or something. And on a more practical note, if animals had souls and could be ghosts (many ifs, I know :) ), the afterlife would be one busy place with barks and oinks galore. Still has anyone heard many bark or oink EVP's?

Personally I don't believe anyone has a soul, but even if I did, I do find the idea of animals having them ridiculous.

The biggest problem however with the whole slaughterhouse incident, was that they didn't enter the building and was content standing outside, not much will to investigative there. In fact the whole episode lacked actual investigation and the prominent and loud wildlife, which was heard on the production audio, should have disqualified any EVP's. The ones they tried to sell the client was ridiculous. And on top of that, the episode was dead boring, I don't know why but it felt like they were confused by the location and not really into it.

Did they ever investigate the prison itself? No one has made mention of this, just them standing outside the slaughter house, etc.
There have been reports of ghostly animals in the past, but don't understand the whole ghost animal thing. The Cathars, the perfects anyways didn't eat meat or certain animal products, one reason being if I recall that a soul might be reincarnated in a horse, cow, etc.Have to read up on my Cathar beliefs.
Someone asked the question about animals and souls on the Catholic Answers Forum once too. Someone made the remark that St.Thomas Aquinas mentions this, that it might be possible they have some sort of soul. However, it was not like a human one, since we are made in God's image, and through Adam and Eve we fell, but by Christ we were redeemed.Interesting subject though.
If there were a couple of prisioners who were killed while in the slaughterhouse, you think the group would go in and look around.
As far as the evps of oinks and moos, GH at the Amos Blake House caught a cat purring in the parlor on an evp. That's like in Weird New Jersey and several sites, there is mention of a slaughterhouse on what was a insane ayslum property, where people had heard the sounds of pigs at times.
That would have been interesting if they had gone in and actually caught animal evps.Sounds like a lame episode all around.

Well, a cat purr isn't much and could easily be a misidentified natural sound. I'm talking, barks, oinks, fox calls, howlings etc. I haven't heard one, which indicates few, if any, are caught. Whatever that indicates. And of course, how do you know it isn't an actual animal, especially if caught on a recorder left to record in an empty room.

It is pretty obvious GHI provided a service not an investigation at San Lucas, they were called in to raise interest and revenue on an abandoned prison which really hasn't much to offer tourists others than perhaps ghost tours, since the history seems both vague and actually not that interesting. It was a rough prison, yes (of which there are many to this day), and people died there (not that surprising), but there wasn't even much of local legends about the place. And if the torture consisted of putting people in "the hole" which was a literal hole, I'm sorry, but that isn't much to write home about. Also very little was known or atleast told about what kind of prisoners were held there, an average sentence of seven years isn't really much. All in all, much ado about nothing, imo.

Your right bullerspoke, sounds a waste of GHI's time.At least if GHI investigated say the Tower of London or Poveglia Island where GA went and also Scariest Places,
there's some interesting stuff. While Poveglia is off limits to tourists, it does have a long and macbre history, and plenty of stories of hauntings from the locals.
And the Tower of London housed people like St.Thomas More, Blessed Margaret Plantagenet Pole, Anne Boylen,Catherine Howard, Lady Jane Grey, and many other nobable people who were either executed there, or kept as prisoners.Thomas More was Chancellor to Henry the 8th, and the movie, A Man For All Seasons was made about him.
Margaret pole was a cousin of Henry's and governess to his daughter,Queen Mary, also known as Bloody Mary.
As far as the evps go, if it is an open building, all sorts of creatures could make the place their homes. You have tree frogs, bats, etc, especially in areas like they were at.They should have looked around more for the source of the noises.
Even for tourists this place doesn't even offer much in the way of ghosts I'm thinking. So a waste of film all around.

Is it just me or has GHI become….very, very, mundane over time? I may just be missing the Brian Harnois drama from the original show, but it just occurred to me that I really don't give a shit about any of these people.

I would kinda enjoy seeing Barry take a long walk off a short pier, but that's a bout it. (This is mostly due to his scaredy-cat bailing (three times!) during GH's European tour back in the day… Brian is never allowed to the live down the DUDE RUN incident, but the Irish guy gets away with soiling himself and running off on three separate investigations….that and the "I Respect the Ghosts" bullshit he spews up.) ANYWAY, that rant over:

Rob is Jay's substitute teacher…only a stupid jock…..and then there's Barry….and the rest of the "cast" is more or less just Star Trek red shirts who you barely notice. It's shoddy, boring show-making….but I've yet to decide whether the editing/producer side of the show is just abyssmal at their job, or if these people are indeed _just_ that mind numbingly lumpus-like.

People confuse the terms soul and spirit and make them interchangable. This is not the case with Christianity anyway.

The Bible viewpoint is that we are a spirit, we have a soul and we live in a body. The scripture defines the soul as the mind, will and emotions, which animals do not have. They run off instinct. While they may have some intellect, it rises no where near where a human's intellect is.

I hope that clears up the confusion. Thanks.
