GH: Edgewood Plantation
This investigation was mildly interesting, but there's not really much to say. The house itself had some serious US history under its belt, most notably (due to the reported hauntings) a civil war history. The owner told TAPS about a woman who had stayed out in the cottage house with her husband and left early because she came upon a number of civil war soldiers (ostensibly ghosts) whom insisted on speaking with her at length. She reported the name of one of the men as "Aaron Young III".
During the investigation proper, no one saw or heard anything. Just about the most interesting thing that went on was Jay & Grant found a pocket of air where the K-II meter appeared to be picking up EM fields from an unknown source that vanished after a few minutes, and then picking up a much stronger field around what looked to be a very old tricycle. Frankly, this tricycle was black and looked to be made of some potentially heavy and magnetic metal — which might explain the K-II readings right there.
The only interesting thing that went on was Kris did some research and was able to dig up a little bit of information that seemed to support the possibility of a soldier named Aaron Young being on the property during the period of the civil war. Of course even that doesn't really mean very much, even if we could prove the exact person the woman described was actually on the property at some point — or even perhaps died on the property or nearby — that doesn't preclude the possibility she may have read the man's name at some point and then just had a very real-seeming dream. Not to mention the distasteful possibility — which nonetheless must be considered — of a manufactured story. In a nutshell, if we could prove the woman in question actually spoke with civil war soldier's who had been dead over 100 years, I would very much like that but as it stands we have no proof either way, but some compelling reasons to believe, as well as some very compelling reasons to be skeptical.
If it weren't for that single anecdote told to TAPS by the owner during their tour this might actually be the first investigation I would have suggested they just throw out and write it off.

Boring same old same old.
I was very surprised that the K2 was not going crazy when they were feeling around the supposed static mass. I think they were so into the we found something acting they forgot it was there.
Learjet @ 11:10 am
On the other hand if it really was an electrostatic charge the K2 wouldn't detect it anyway. The K2 only picks up oscillating fields. The Ramsey or Trifield meters are designed to pick up electrostatic fields, like the ones GHI use.
I see sheetie is back with a starring role on thermal now Lol. That dude was close and looked like he was riding a bike! They could only fit half of it in. Notice how when they pan to the left the camera has another freeze frame stutter. I reckon this camera is faulty as it had the freeze frame stutter last week also. Bike riding sheetie was probably recorded earlier and held in the frame buffer like the image "burn in" from last week. The camera is broken.
Nosfer @ 11:12 am
I like how they use the K-2 instead of, oh, maybe something that would actually quantify the strength of the field! You know, something other than "ooooh, it spiked up to 5 lights!!!!"
Learjet @ 11:18 am
Darn, I put the thermal comment in the wrong thread.

A quick note on K2 meters and EMF's, now I just recently had an mri done of my shoulder, I'm sure many readers may have had one of these tests. I don't know if it has been brought up, but the magnetic field put out by one of these machines is intense, I was told my the MRI Tech that it was in the thousands of gauss, and yet everyone is measuring in milligauss. I asked if anyone had skin irritation, feelings of dread, hallucinations, hearing things, etc. as put forth by paranormal investigators in their investigations. Supposedly, many people can feel dread as mentioned in one of the episodes on Wednesday, (whether one of the reruns or the new one), in as few as a couple minutes to twenty minutes.
If someone is hypersensitive to these fields, an MRI machine would drive them wacko, yet the tech said there was nothing unusual like the above symptoms (except hallucinations, but from head injuries, not the machine), she had seen in working with the machine.
Now in order to see the fine details of our muscles and tendons and bone, this has to be one major magnetic field, yet nothing unusual. Also, if magnetic fields help propogate spirits, you would think the room would be packed with spirits, (picturing Whoopi Goldberg in Ghost when she finally can hear ghosts and her reading chamber is packed with them), especially in a hospital, where many have passed away over the years.
I know I have been spooked by a house, but yet, if it was the "fear cage" syndrome, you would think I would have been wigging out during the test. I felt nothing, no dread, no itching, nothing. Just being stiff in the shoulder that I had to hold motionless for over 30 minutes, (parts had to be redone because my muscle disease caused my shoulder and arm to twitch, which is normal for me when trying to hold a position).
Of course, many people do feel claustrophobia from the confined space in the mri machine, but that is hardly due to the "fear cage effect" just a phobia of closed in spaces that was present before the test.
I don't know, maybe my point is totally off base, but it really had me thinking while listening to the the thumps and bangs the machine makes, and prompted me to ask these questions of the technician. More people are worried that their tattoos will burn due to the iron oxide in the ink, which was a test on mythbusters (red ink that is) but if I remember, the myth was busted, but there was a question on the form asking if you had tattoos, I had put yes, for my "Bill The Cat" Tat on my other shoulder, but nothing was mentioned to me about it and I felt nothing from the tattoo, no "skin irritation".
Has this thought been brought up before, the MRI and magnetic field "myths" I would have to say now. Another quick note, the tricycle K2 readings msy have been due to the fact it was iron. I imagine they wipe down the trike with a dry cloth to keep dust off and many of us have done the magnetizing of the needle trick with a piece of cloth, or there just may have been some magnetic ore in the iron it was forged. Who knows, metal and magnetic fields play no significance to me in ghost detecting, at least metal that reacts to magnetism. Just my two cents, non-refundable…but certainly may be put in the "extra penny tray" if totally off base re: the MRI.

@ TasCat -
I have had many an MRI in the last few years but no one had ever explained to me about any of the above effects you mention. The only thing I was asked about was if I was claustrophobic due to having to be in such a confined space. If that was the case, I needed to have someone drive me there and back because I would need meds to take the edge off. Although I'm not claustrophobic, after a few closed MRIs, I decided to go the route of an open MRI which, even though it is an MRI, they tell me is a bit less accurate but acceptable. In all those times, not once did I ever experience any side effects except my back hurt from staying completely still for a hour lying flat on the narrow cold "tray" they move you in and out of for the test. Quite frankly, I find that some people have a tendency, even with good intentions, to relate a horror story about test or procedure they or someone they know had experienced which increases a person's anxiety no matter how hard they try to shake the story. This is exactly what they are doing in these investigations. So now, if you didn't have that feeling before, you do now. I guess when I go for my CAT scan in a few days, I'll be asking the same questions you did.

TasCat- what a great post and awesome information! Thank you. We've kicked around and shot down their theories about k2's but I don't think anybody has gone to the lengths you did and talked about it in such depth.
And I love that you have Bill The Cat on your shoulder- very cool!
@ AliCat- Oooo- keep us posted on what you find out and I'll be sending you all good thoughts for the best outcome possible!
alicat @ 12:32 pm
Thanks Camile. Should be sometime next week. I think I actually should just move there since my co-pays probably brought a few of those MRI and CAT scan machines. (I'm somewhat embarrassed to say, one of the records clerks stayed late one night because he wanted to meet me since I've had to pick up so many test results there over the last couple years from a car accident, etc.) Again, thanks for the good thoughts!

My son and i went to Edgewood and found it very charming. While Candy was showing us around we heard noises down stairs–but no one was there. My son saw shadows in Lizzie's bedroom. I took some pictures that I need to get developed and hope "something" will show up. I could feel something was there. It's a most beautiful home and has a feeling of love and warmth. Candy was most gracious.

My husband and I have retreated to Edgewood to enjoy weekend get-aways on five occasions over the past six years. All visits have been very enjoyable, but we did experience an eerie presence during one stay in February of 2006. During that visit (our second to the Plantation), we were awakened in the middle of the night by the sound of a woman softly humming a tune at the foot of the bed. At first we thought it was a music box in the room, but there was no music box. We also heard a strange squeegy-sound (hard to explain) that sounded like it was coming from the window. We both were awakened by these sounds and were pretty spooked. After the humming stopped, we spent the next few hours trying to sleep while we kept hearing very loud noises of what sounded like heavy furniture being dragged and moved across the floor in our bedroom. My husband is not a believer in the supernatural, but he definitely believes we experienced a ghostly presence that night–we both heard all of this–it was hard to ignore! I still get goosebumps on my arms when I remember the details of that night. I am very surprised that the ghost-hunters did not experience a spirit presence. I would be happy to share the details of what happened.

Kim,
Thank you for sharing your experience with us! We would love to hear the details, I'm sure, and the perfect place to post those would be in the forum under the "Possibly Paranormal" thread. Many of us here have had our own experiences as well, and that forum thread is a good place to read a lot of those stories.
Thanks, and we hope to hear from you again!

Our team "RIP" (Richmond Investigators of the Paranormal" recently concluded and investigation (Sept. 2010) at Edgewood Plantation on Rte 5 east of Richmond, Va. The amount of paranormal evidence we captured was outstanding! We captured 7 confirmed evp's. At least 4 photos that shows a paranormal event. We have video of 2 different K2 Meters continue to activate in a field where there is no electrical cables or equipment of any kind. This activity took place for over 20 minutes and only occurred around one certain team member! We also captured a shadow following our investigators down the stairs in the main hall of the house. RIP has "Certified Edgewood Plantation as being Haunted!" Visit our website to view some of the evidence: http://www.ghosraps.com

"This activity took place for over 20 minutes and only occurred around one certain team member!" – no alarm bells were ringing for you? You find this totally normal? Is his name Grant?
Your 'evidence' – orbs and trailing lights????? Really? Seriously? Dowsing rods???? Again, seriously?

"Here is a Franks Box just like the one we use use on our investigations.
I have personally modified the radio so it will scan and answer your questions during your evp sessions
You ask questions wait and listen for your answer. Make sure you have your recorders going to verify your evidence."
You have 'certified' the place as haunted. LOL.
