GH: All Access 2008

I don't have a "review" for this, as it's a retrospective, doesn't offer any new evidence and doesn't address any of the hard truths we've been discussing here, but if anyone wants to comment on or discuss it, here's the place.  I did like all the footage of Steve touching things :)

DonnaB @ 9:52 pm

It's like an hour long GH commercial.

Diogenes @ 10:33 pm

They are just a bunch of fun loving guys. So happy together. This must have been filmed BEFORE the Halloween show because J&G weren't so fun loving after the show. It's nice that Roto Rooter gives them time off to investigate Ghosts and go to conventions where they can charge $50 an autograph, sell the T-Shirts,DVD's, books and then it's back to the toilets. I want an hour of my life back for watching this mishegaas! (Yid. 'a lot of nonsense')

TP @ 11:35 pm

What was all the nonsense about a new member, then they bring out the red head without all the applause.

I thought it might be someone else.

The whole show, I kept saying Grant did it, Grant did it. I managed to piss off the wife. lol

Lar @ 12:12 am

You don't have to believe in the paranormal to know what goes around comes around. Maybe Grant will continue as king of the prankanormal or paraprankster, but it will eventually come back to HAUNT him.
Call it karma, God, just reward, whatever you'd like but eventually, even if it has nothing to do with TAPS, life has a way of paying you back. Or is that the after life.

Oubliette @ 12:53 am

I agree in that this was probably already filmed before the live investigation. Jay and Grant seem like good buddies here; something which did not come across during the Halloween show.

BTW, notice how they are STILL trying to sell that debunked (at least to me) Eastern State guy running in sneakers with a sheet over his body and also the Crescent Hotel apparition. I believe it was debunked by that guy who has shown how it was simply Grant's reflection on the locker. And I think that J & G know this is true, since in later shows they throw out remarks like "that could be a reflection" and also when Grant showed Colin Ferguson how the FLIR can, under certain circumstances, produce images of the person holding the camera.

I still harbor an interest in Grant's watch. I've seen some nice "spy recording" watches that look quite a bit like his. Only an observation…

So, all is well in GH land, they are just good buddies complete with a Laurel & Hardy comedy duo and they really, REALLY, help people.

Don't know about anyone else, but if I were called in to investigate a restaurant or attraction and because my group labeled it as having paranormal stuff and their business then boomed, I would feel used, not happy "to have helped". It just doesn't look or feel right.

CreatureFeature @ 4:19 am

GH: Greatest Pranks and Practical jokes (or is that hoax).

So when does the Chris Angel v. Grant special come to a television near you?

StanTheMan @ 8:25 am

I was taken aback that they showed the profits to be made by being declared haunted by GH. That to me was a blatant grab for more clients – restaurants, inns, etc to come calling. It also showed what can be gained by a little fakery if nothing really happens. How long will it be before GH charges its clients for the publicity they get. All the more reason for GH to find ghosts everywhere.

georghale @ 8:31 am

They weren't specific as to what they helped to do or what kind of help they offered.

Since they aren't debunking anymore but creating hauntings, they are helping these dying businesses to publicity, and a 'fun' reason for people to stay at them or visit them which means more money for the conern which keeps financially afloat.

I wonder how much these businesses pay Pilgrim to consider them as a hoaxing site?

Private homes don't pay as well so we are not going to get more than a token home thrown in just to keep the lie alive that they 'help.' I don't know about you but the kind of help they gave that last private homeowner is not the kind of help I need or want anywhere near me.

Steve @ 8:42 am

It was so obvious, that this show was filmed on Halloween.
Jay and Grant always try to come across as the "common man".
The stereo-typical, we do this "for the good of the people."
"We are only here to help."
However, Jay and Grant couldn't bring out all the investigator's for a little air time.
Why wasn't Kris, Kristyn or Joe Chin allowed to share the stage?
Did you ever notice when Steve G. goes to a home to investigate, that he never removes his shoes when sitting on the home owner's bed? Does he have a phobia about his feet?
Grant brought up the fact that Tango saved the crew from being duped…Tango was new to the team back then, I wonder if that hoax, was another Grant in bed with the sheets pulling down, and wasn't supposed to be revealed as a hoax.
Was it me, or after viewing the highlights last night, I realized how many times, a simple string pull, explains the panormal activity TAPS uncovered ( picture frame, bed sheets, door closing etc.)
As I stated in previous writings, if you doubt the integrity of Jay and Grant, you have nothing.
PS the lamp cord was on Grant's right side as it slowly moves across the table. Grant looked guilty on that highlight also.

Wes @ 8:55 am

A waste … thought they MIGHT ask some serious Oprah-like questions that get to the heart of the matter without being accusatory: something like, "what do you say to the critics who say some of the evidence is faked?" … but Josh isn't a journalist and this wasn't a news show.

And I said it before: to investigate a commercial location WHERE YOU HAVE PAID EVENTS SCHEDULED, like TAPS has, is a clear violation of the most basic ethics. It's a conflict of interest any way you look at it, so to then tout how you don't charge people and just help them, etc. etc. is incredibly dubious.

Steve @ 9:31 am

Last night's show was probably filmed way before "collargate".

CrowTRobot @ 9:48 am

An hour-long infomercial…with commercials.

I'm still scratching my head over the military calling TAPS in to investigate an air force(?) base. Something about that just doesn't seem right.

To me, it was very telling that any ghost hunting questions were answered by J&G, but Steve and Tango were left, mostly, with talking about their foolishness during investigations.

***HEY LOOK! A CAN LABELED 'WORMS'…I WONDER WHAT'S INSIDE***

Brian.

They're still getting mileage out of his 'Dude Run' moment. Fine. But I'd like to see them address Steve's, and lately the two Kris's, constant fleeing of rooms just because of spiders, crawly things, Kris' wall buggers – whatever that is; thus getting nothing done.

Nosfer @ 10:06 am

Or in Grant's case "Dude shuffle down the ladder!" He seemed to scramble down out of that attic hatchway pretty darn quick, himself. And what about Jason's mantra "When in doubt, get the hell out"?

Josh wasn't going to ask any serious questions because he's, yup, beholding to the same people…Sci-Fi. Wouldn't be good for his career lol

MauveHarlet @ 10:17 am

Man, don't get me wrong, I still have hope for the show, that they might change the ways the show has been for a while. BUT, I just can't get past the fact that they mentioned they are open to anyone joining the team SKEPTIC or believer. BUT won't even allow skeptical views on their 18+ forum!!??? What gives??

Nosfer @ 10:28 am

" BUT, I just can't get past the fact that they mentioned they are open to anyone joining the team SKEPTIC or believer. BUT won't even allow skeptical views on their 18+ forum!!??? What gives??"

Much less on their "less than 18" forum!

blinddog50 @ 10:38 am

All in all a wasted hour of my life, oh well.

Glad to hear that they are going HD in March.
Won't be able hide that string now G-man.

One thing I did notice on one of the clips they showed.
They were investigating and staying at some hotel and the closet door in Jason's room was opening and closing on it's own.
What was to be seen in the closet?
That's right, an ironing board!
I think I see a new 'theory' developing here.

georghale @ 11:22 am

IIRC, they debunked the ironing board falling against the door at the time. I am more apt to believe someone is at the foot of the bed pulling the door open out of view of the camera which is blocked by the bed's footboard.

It is very telling that everything seems to happen around J&G. I discount everything happening to J&G and only to J&G. I am still clinging to my St. Augustine Lighthouse hopes. LOL

Steve's touching everything video adds fuel to the fire that he screws around on the so called investigations all the time. This means he is either crap as an investigator or the filmed 'investigations' are all bogus and they are all bad actors who can't pretend well. Since we have no accounts of Steve's investigations in private life we can make no conclusions about his investigative skills as such. Which leaves us with what we see on camera.

Oh, and what was that about Steve's cats? I care about the investigations and NOT about building up celebrity tidbits so I don't care about their private lives if the details bring nothing to their investigations. Maybe he can bring his cats along on leashes and they can protect him from his vewy scawy spidews.

DonnaB @ 11:28 am

There were so many things wrong with last night's show, I don't even know where to start. Some things have been said, like the obvious "let us 'investigate' your place of business" commercial they did, their statement that they're still "working" for Roto-rooters, and so on.

Did anyone catch what Grant said about the KII? He said it was "like" an EMF detector, but it detected different things (like, maybe radio waves?), but he didn't even mention the problems and limitations it has. Not to mention the KII IS an EMF detector, according to the manufacturer.

It was nice of them to compile the "Grant List" for us. Much better than watching each one on youTube.

The first GH Sci-fi aired before the All access show really highlights the degree in which the show has gone down-hill. It was the episode where TAPS debunked the college apartment house and the tavern. The Tavern owners were even upset that TAPS tried so hard to dis-prove their haunting claims, even asking if they "felt good" about doing it. They should call TAPS back to do another show, I'm sure Grant could have a really extraordinary experience there now.

Harry @ 11:47 am

Random thoughts:

1) So the new investigator is a redhead who wears glasses—-yes, another step toward morphing into "Scooby Doo Where Are You?" with real people!! Will they add a large, amiable dog to the crew for next season?

2) Did anyone else pay attention to those scenes of their live appearances at fan conventions, etc.? If you are one of those who asked "what motive would Jay and Grant have to fake evidence?", there's your answer: hordes of people, armed with money to buy tee shirts, DVDs, and other souvenirs, all eager to believe whatever you tell them. If you start saying "gee, we can't find any evidence those places are really haunted," such people—and their money—-might stay home. And that would be a bad thing, right?

3) Why no mention of previous TAPS members who have appeared on the series, especially Brian? It reminded me of the days of the USSR, when disgraced former Politburo members would suddenly become "non-persons" after their ouster. Did previous members of the TV cast, like Donna, leave on good terms or not? Very odd not to thank or even mention those who helped make the show what it is today.

4) They made acknowledgment of the production crews who are with them on every investigation, yet never said how they prevent them from "contaminating" the investigation, as one of the crew almost certainly did in the first Fort Delaware investigation (the "oops, I'm not supposed to be here!" thermal image). I don't think that was an isolated incident! ;-)

Logisti @ 11:58 am

Wes, "what do you say to the critics who say some of the evidence is faked?" — They *have* answered this many times on their blogs. The answer is always something along the lines of, "Well I guess it's just their word against ours, and if they want to be jerks that hate our show, apple pie, America and freedom, well that's their right."

DonnaB, they always try to have it both ways. With the "coat tug" Grant suggested (for the people who *want* to believe, but are finding it a bit difficult) that maybe the wire from his earpiece got snagged. Then (for the people who are willing to believe anything he says, even when he contradicts himself) he said that wire was inside his shirt so there was no way it could have gotten snagged.

With the K-II he carefully acknowledged that is was a flawed device and assured us they would never base the results of an investigation on it, but they've spent more time having in-depth conversations with that thing this season than they've spent wandering around with IR thermometers their entire television careers. So even though they'd never base on investigation on K-II results, they act as if it's more useful than a thermometer (despite constantly telling us about all the cold spots they run into).

It's just a variation on the "say one thing, do another" method of gaining trust even as you exploit it.
