GH: Seven Sisters Inn

Ocala Florida's Seven Sisters Inn consists of two buildings: a Purple House and a Pink House. Right away Jay & Grant are treated to what seemed to be the sounds of footsteps and whispering on the second floor of the Purple House and they pulled out their K-II meter. Jay told any spirits that might be around how to play with the device and after he seemed to be getting responses he said he was going to count to three and if it lit the device up "on three" then he wouldn't ask it to do anything else.

Well, what happened was he said, "one" and the device lit up and then again it lit when he said, "two" but when he said, "three" nothing happened.  Next he just decided to count and asked whoever was manipulating the device to light it up when he said a number, and he seemed to get consistent result again — only when he said a number — except "on three" when, again the device failed to light. This led them to believe the "spirit" was playing with them.

Another thing that was tried was the "shave and a haircut" knocking. If you've seen "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" or you're really, really old (sorry, it's true) then you know what I'm talking about. Grant and/or Jay would knock "Shave and a Haircut" and on a seemingly consistent basis they would hear knocks for "Two Bits" coming from elsewhere in the house. Grant said he could feel it in his feet, as if the knocks were coming through the floor.

Passing the "India Room", Jay thought he saw a shadow walking alongside him just inside the doorway. They went into the room and Grant used the K-II meter on a chair, discovering that there seemed to be a high EM field only within an area the size and shape of a person that might have been sitting in the chair, but outside of that area there was no EM field at all being picked up by the meter. I will say that I do not believe Grant had a free hand in either this case or the previous K-II experiment where he might have been manipulating some electronic device which might affect the K-II.

Interestingly, Jay sat down in the chair and claimed it was 10-15 degrees colder — that seemed like it must be a bit of an exaggeration to me, and frankly they do own thermometers so I was flabbergasted that Jay would make such a brazen assertion when it should have been a simple matter for him to know exactly what the temperature difference was, if any. Grant sat down there next and said that he did feel like it was cooler. Afterwards he took K-II measurements again and no longer got any readings.

In the Pink House there had been stories of people tripping while going up and down the stairs, and also of being pulled back and prevented from falling at the last minute.  Jay wanted to test this out, and to remove a variable from the equation he removed his own flip-flops, believing (correctly) that they presented a tripping risk for someone going up and down the steps rapidly. Jay got to the top of the steps and didn't even turn around before he had an encounter. He said he saw a small shadow the size of a child dart from one room to another.

The excitement lasted only a few moments, and when Jay came back downstairs he noticed one of his flip-flops was missing. They found it only after looking for over a half-hour and practically giving up. The flip-flop was in the middle of a closed room towards the back of the house which they hadn't even been shown on the tour.

I know it's not much, but that's pretty much the whole episode. I don't even think there were any EVP's (correct me if I'm wrong?) so I'm going to leave it at that and open it for discussion. What do y'all think?

Speaking as one of the really, really, old guys (early 50s….yea, people live to be that old) I couldn't hear the two knocks – (of course, that could be because I'm really, really, old).

The flip-flop incident just seemed soooo set up. And the K-II meter…whatever. Although (and I posted this in the wrong thread, earlier – really, really, old people do that sometimes) I would have liked for them to ask if there was any significance to the number three, or if it was just playing with them.

Brandon @ 7:04 am

Logisti,

Thanks, once again, for your review.

There were a couple of interesting quotes that I wanted to point out. Early in the episode while experimenting with the K2, Jay stated “Were getting some weird readings from the K2. Something seems to be playing around…almost childish.” These comments, along with Jay comment later that the shape at the top of the stairs was that of a “7 or 8 year old child” strike me as odd. How do they know that it is a child? Does a 4 foot black mass (I am assuming the height) have to be a child? Yes, the lights were acting funny, but are children the only ones that you mess with Jay and Grant? With no evidence to support it being a child, why even make that assumption?

One thing to point out is that the 10 to 15 degrees colder comment didn’t originate when Jay sat down. At the time, he stated that it was “a tad bit cooler.” Later, during the reveal, he stated it was 10 to 15 degrees colder. Grant asked Jay to sit on the other chair, but Jay never stated whether it was warmer than the other chair. Another thing I noticed was that the chairs had pillows on them. I know that when I sit or sleep against pillows, they generally feel cooler than the room temperature. But my theory could easily have been disproved by actually checking the temperature. I, too, don’t understand why they don’t seem to use thermometers anymore. I remember they use to be a staple of the first few seasons. They seemed to go away with the introduction of the FLIR, but it never seems to be handy when there is a noticeably temperature difference. That image would have been pretty cool (no pun intended) to see the outline of a person or at least the chair 10 to 15 degrees cooler on the FLIR, but perhaps that is asking too much of this “research team”.

The final thing I felt was very odd was the Flip Flop comment by Jay and Grant during the evidence review. I get that the Flip Flop was moved, but their comment was that it was setup like a trap. Grant stated “like a box with a stick” implying a trap used to catch animals. Did this strike anyone as an odd comment to make? I really don’t understand how they came to that conclusion since it was just laying on the floor in an empty room. But clearly Jay and Grant talked about this before hand, since Jay started the comment and Grant finished his sentence. If the ghost was actually trying to trap them, wouldn’t that be a potential dangerous situation, not something to just laugh about? Isn’t it enough that the shoe mysteriously moved into a completely different room?

Those were my thoughts on an otherwise dull episode.

Jef @ 7:28 am

When Grant was getting readings of on the K-2 meter in the chair, I couldn't help but notice that he was holding his voice recorder in the same hand. When he swept around the chair a moment later and got no readings, he only had the K-2 in his hand.

But I am not 100 percent sure. Am I just so old that I can't remember an episode that aired only days ago? I'm certainly old enough to know the ole "shave and a haircut" bit, so I guess it's possible.

this episode blew horse chunks. I'd call it weak sauce, but there have been so many of those lately I needed to come up with something more. As my wife would say, this episode didn't Julius my Ceaser. Not even a little bit.

And yes, I know that's ridiculous.

I wonder why jay would even be wearing flip flops at all. I wear them when I walk down the street to 7 Eleven or when I drive my kids to soccer practice. I can't imagine wearing them in a situation that required me to walk around in the dark, that's for sure.

Also there's that whole professionalism thing, I suppose. It's like what's his name (the leader of GHI) wearing his backwards baseball caps as he gets a tour from a place he is about to investigate. If some guy showed up to investigate my house or place of business and they came wearing flip flops I think I'd have some second thoughts.

But then again, that's small potatoes. And who the hell am I to talk? I don't even own a tie. I couldn't be formal at gunpoint.

But I digress.

Great breakdown of the episode, it was exponentially more entertaining than the episode itself.

Brandon you are so right! I agree that the FLIR is so often conveniently forgotten in situations where it could provide some evidence to go along with what Jay and Grant are "experiencing."

Bah!

TP @ 7:52 am

I agree with everyone's comments so far.

I just want to add that every week, it is becoming more and more apparent to me that Jay is in on it, not just Grant.

bullerspoke @ 10:41 am

It is rather disturbing that all of their claims in this episode originated from personal experiences and the K2. And again, they shove coins and whatnot onto the button of the K2, instead of using the ones with a permanent switch. What is up with that? Are the old ones they used not trustworthy? Or do they get better results with these new ones where whatever is pushing down a sensitive button which is proven to produce false readings?

I can not take them seriously when the do like that, without explanations, it's just amateurish. Using the K2 at all is suspicious and using like they now done in two episodes is just well, beyond me.

No matter if it is all a hoax or not, the show and TAPS performance is getting weaker, duller and sketchier by the episode. In the past atleast they seemed to or gave the impression of actually trying and we got entertained. Now it's all sliding down a slippery slope into suspicion and boredom.

Wes @ 10:48 am

The K-II has jumped the shark, or bit the shark or whatever the saying is — when it lights up on command, that's proof there's a spirit about; when it lights up before the desired mark, that's proof the ghost is playing with us — you can't lose!!

Why not just get a magic coin on e-Bay and flip it to determine if there's a ghost about? Heads, the ghost is in the room, tails, it's in the room but doesn't wish to communicate right now until Dancing with the Stars is over ….

They should rename the K-II the TAPS officially licensed Communicator for Real Astral Phenomena — or CRAP — 2000 and do away with all the other equipment.

J. @ 12:31 pm

I gotta agree with bullerspoke. This show has gotten worse lately.

What happened to them going into a place to debunk things? Sure, they debunk some stuff, but look at what passes for evidence lately: the K-II "hits", the almost always ambiguous EVP's, and what appears to be humans getting caught on the FLIR in the Fort Delaware episode, and then again in the recent Buffalo Central Terminal episode doing some kind of goofy walk. And they expect us to take that as evidence of ghosts?

What they do isn't science. It is an insult to science to call it so. What it is, is pseudoscience at best and true believers seeking evidence to affirm their own beliefs at worst.

If they are trying to appeal to just their true believer fans, then hey, great job; keep up the excellent work guys. But if they want skeptics like us to take them seriously, then they have a ton of work to do.

Oubliette @ 12:56 pm

The lack of professionalism is very apparent. OK, maybe it was pretty hot that night, but to go around dressed so casually smacks of them not only showing disrespect (would you go visiting strangers like that?) but also has illustrated a disturbing trend in the series.

The debunking is laughable. As someone else pointed out, if Grant or Jay are getting some good readings or experiences, why not crack out all the equipment and go for it? Why make a subjective statement like Jason did, when he sat in the chair and guessed it was 10-15 degrees colder? Nothing to measure the temp with, guys????

They are doing serious damage to the field. Although at least, as Logisti pointed out, Grant didn't appear to have anything to do with any "evidence" they may have gotten on this episode.

They used to be so much better then this…

Harry @ 4:36 pm

As I mentioned on the "A Note to the Producers" thread, it really seems like the GH crew just doesn't care like they once did. I'm not saying they were any more scientific or convincing in the past, but at least they were interesting and entertaining. Now they seem bored with it all and don't appear to be having any fun at all—–and neither are we viewers having any fun watching them go through the motions. I'm no psychic, but it wouldn't surprise me if this series doesn't reach an end soon. The ennui is really thick in this season's episodes!

Allison @ 5:34 pm

In response to your flip flop comment. If you live in FL flip flops are an everyday, all day/night shoe choice lol!! Maybe Jason was just trying to fit in with the locals hahahaha.

Brandon @ 6:07 pm

Harry,

I completely agree with your comments. They don't seem to be having fun. They are just going through the motions on many of these cases. In the first few seasons, they were often helping people in their community that needed help. The early episodes were more focused on the TAPS Team as a support group for those dealing with supposed supernatural events. I think TAPS is now more about deciding if a place is hunted and in doing so they have lost sight of the people that are affected.

I think it boils down to the difference between a hobby and a job. Almost everyone has said "I wish somebody would pay me to do that (fill in the blank with your dream job)", but that change from a hobby to a job usually takes the fun out of it.

Oubliette @ 7:53 pm

Also, look at all the personnel changes. Many of their better investigators have jumped shipped (or were pushed). Now we are left with the comedy team of Steve (smart guy) and mark (Dave Tango). Joe, who appeared out of nowhere, fooling around with Kris on some episodes when they should have been investigating. Maybe they were bored as well???

And every time they go to a restaurant or hotel, I really get a bad feeling. It just seems those places are looking for publicity, and sometimes GH is too eager to comply.

The K-II meter reminds me of the show on SciFi a few years ago called "Proof Positive". The whole thing would boil down to someone passing a lie detector; something which is not dependable and the results not even admissable in court. But with this show we get the K-II instead. If it blinks, it MUST be a ghost!

Sigh…..

kevin @ 12:11 pm

Are we expected to believe a spirit picked up Jason's flip-flop, walked, floated or traveled however ghosts are supposed to travel, a pretty good distance, opened a door, placed the flip-flip in the room and then closed the door? And this conveniently happens when nobody is there to witness or film it? No paranormal activity this complex has been filmed in 4 seasons of GH, where movement is usually measured in inches and seconds. And again, Jason uses the excuse of "nobody was down there" as evidence of spirit activity.

papagrande @ 5:27 pm

I had a pack rat take a camera one time maybe it had help by one of those huge cockroaches to help open the door and put Jason's flip flop in the room. I still enjoy the show.I have been a fan of the paranormal for over forty years and this is a pretty good show.

Ron @ 7:39 pm

Wasn't Grant at the bottom of the stairs while Jay went all the way up by himself. The camara man was filming from the bottom of the stairs looking up with Grant no where in sight.

Depending upon where Grant was during this shot it would have been easy for him or anyone else for that matter to move the flip flop.

Would I love to have someone who has been on the show come out with evidence that the show has staged quite a few events like we allready know but I'm sure they would be sued with the confidentiality clauses they must sign.

Lar @ 10:00 pm

Random thoughts….
Most TV shows if not entire seasons are available online. Why does Pilgrim NOT make most episodes of TAPS available?

Ah! They want you to BUY single downloads or season of DVDs right? That era's just about DEAD. Buying CURRENT TV shows in an age of digital recording has crippled industry sales.

Taps/Pilgrim hide behind "copyright infringment," but unlike their evps it's better understood they do not want their episodes viewed online for the very reason you see here. Debunking.

Taps does not allow audio/video to be reviewed by outside sources. They don't allow the homeowner or persons at the facility to participate during the investigation, including the asking of simple questions when using the K-2. They enforce the distribution of their episodes, pulling them OFF line as soon as possible.

If the investigations & evidence get any worse, please play pull the plug & play TAPS!

Oubliette @ 8:31 am

Lar-great observation. But I don't think DVDs of GH are not being made available as DVDs because people might be able to debunk a lot of their evidence.

I remember buying the first DVDs to come out (from Amazon). Then all of a sudden iTunes had them, just as you described. There was a huge mixup about the season involving Leap Castle (can't recall what season that was just now) which resulted in problems for subscribers to the series. The episodes ran over what iTunes had agreed to carry and there was quite the uproar. For a while, SciFi itself pulled out of iTunes lineup.

Now I see SciFi is back and so are the GH downloads, so obviously they ironed the problems out. Those of us who had subscribed received credits from iTunes to use anywhere on the site as compensation.

But point about not having DVDs brings up other matters. I think some shows lend themselves to a download format, but most can go either way. There are shows right now that I am purposely waiting for the DVDs to purchase instead of downloading. To me, it's still better to have DVDs then to depend on your hard drive!

The big problem with downloads is, of course, if your hard drive crashes or worse, gets messed up by a malignant malware. Then all those shows you have downloaded can be lost forever if no back ups were made. And frankly, though we know backing up the drive is extremely important, how many of us really do it on a regular basis? I myself am very guilty of not doing this, but there is just so much that can be fit in a day sometimes.

Finally, we have an old CRT TV. Until we finally get our HDTV flat screen, we cannot hook up our PC and watch anything on our 35" set. So whatever we download is being watched on our 19" LCD monitor–nice, but no comparison to a decent sized flat screen. But with a DVD, I just pop it in the player and enjoy it on the big CRT TV.

Hope this post makes sense, I just got up and my brain is not fully awake. But Lar has brought up a very good point. I would also like to buy DVDs of Destination Truth rather then have to download the series, but this is not possible thanks to SciFi and iTunes. :(

P.S. Amazon is also offering some TV downloads-again, no DVDs but downloads. Maybe I'm just old fashioned. After all, I love the boxy car styles from the '80s and I also prefer vinyl records over CDs. So perhaps I am a dinosaur after all.

At least Monsterquest is available on DVDs (but that is another channel) as well as Paranormal State (for those who feel they just HAVE to have that awful series around the house). So it seems the problem lies mostly with SciFi. What gives?

Oubliette @ 8:47 am

Ron-very interesting observation re: Grant. I'd have to watch it again, but if this is the case, it does give one pause. Not enough evidence to put into the "we suspect Grant" category, but certainly something to think about.

Was the room where the flip-flop was found-on the 2nd or 1st floor? If the latter, then it would lend credence to the Grant and his Sticky Fingers theory.

kevin @ 8:54 am

Maybe I don't understand what you're saying, Oubliette, but aren't GH DVDs available? I just checked Amazon and there are whole seasons (each season divided into 2 separate sets), "best of" DVDs for each season, and others like a dvd of last years live Halloween show at Waverly Hills.

Oubliette @ 9:05 am

kevin-could be, like I said, I'm not fully awake.

However, I am speaking in general about some shows that I like and that there are simply no DVDs available, at least at this time. Since I have since stopped buying any shows of GH and given the DVDs I had to my niece, I haven't really been following their avalibility.

Besides, seems YouTube has plenty of GH to watch if one is so inclined! Sorry, I need more coffee….
