Stop Sylvia, Go Robert
Sylvia Browne is one of the biggest names in the psychic world today. Until its cancellation, she was a weekly guest on the Montel Williams show, counseling audience members on the usual gamut of psychic issues. She's had some high-profile missteps, especially in the case of Shawn Hornbeck, a kidnapped boy who she proclaimed had been murdered. Hornbeck was later found alive.
Robert Lancaster is a skeptic. Since November 2006, he's been maintaining stopsylvia.com, a compilation of Browne's mistaken predictions, false statements, and poor treatment of her admirers. From the beginning, Lancaster has managed to stay factual yet fascinating. Just by providing a place for people to read the truth about Browne, Lancaster has saved many from turning over their hard-earned cash to a woman whose psychic abilities are at best unproven. In the process, he and Browne have engaged in various battles culminating in a dramatic face-to-face confrontation. All throughout, he kept his cool. He's one of my skeptical role models.
Lancaster suffered a stroke a few weeks ago and is currently in the hospital, recovering. His friends have set up a fund called Skeptics Unite to help with his medical expenses. I encourage everyone here to have a look at stopsylvia.com and consider a donation to Skeptics Unite.
Update: A domain squatter grabbed "stopsylviabrowne.com". I've updated the links to stopsylvia.com, which is now the right URL.

Just for fun i checked out the debates between a representative of Browne and Mr. Lancaster on you tube.
The reaction by Sylvia Browne's representative was laughable.
I also checked out some predictions she made in 2007-08 on politics via her slots on the Montell Williams show. Listening to the audience reaction told me everything i had to know about cold-reading…really, she's just given the audiuence what they want to hear.
I mean who could predict that Clinton would start strong and then fall sort in the polling? well…who besides almost every political analyst i've ever listened too over the last year and a half.

Wow…what a site. I had no idea who this Sylvia Browne is, but she sure is a piece of work! I really understand why you would look to this guy as a great example of how to express yourself in the most intelligent and respectful way.
I will make sure to check out the fund. Also, I can't wait to read your next post on GHI's last show last night! Should be an interesting read.
