Ghost Hunters BOF at BayCon

Hello all–

This upcoming Memorial Day weekend, I'll be at BayCon, the Bay Area science fiction convention in Santa Clara, CA. More importantly, there will be a Ghost Hunters birds-of-a-feather (BOF) meeting for those of us who want to talk about this fascinating/infuriating show. I'll provide more details about precisely when this event is scheduled once I'm able to pry them out of BayCon's Programming Division manager. (It might help that I'm married to her.)

You can find more details about BayCon here: http://www.baycon.org/2008

So, if you're in the San Francisco Bay Area on May 23-26, and feel like attending a science fiction convention and talking about Ghost Hunters, look for me. Most of the time I'll be wearing a black jacket with white piping like the 1968 TV show "The Prisoner" and answering to the name "Number Six." Strange as this might sound, this is what passes for normal at science fiction conventions.

My psychic prediction for May 27th: many disappointed Tricia Helfer fans.

Oh my dear lord……a "The Prisoner" reference. I have met so few people who remember this show. A true classic. I barely remember watching it as a child and don't think I saw the whole series. I stumbled across the series in a Blockbuster years ago and was in the process of watching it start-to-finish when they suddenly stopped carrying it.

EDIT: In fact, I think the BBC America channel was carrying it for a while a few years ago….

I always wear the Prisoner jacket at Con. It helps people recognize me. When I take the jacket off, it's like being invisible.

I've met people outside con and described my costume, and twice I've had people say that they've seen someone else in the same costume. Since in six years I've never seen this person, I'm forced to conclude that it's me, but that wearing a jacket utterly transforms me.

I love that you guys know "The Prisoner" - I knew you were cool!

You can actually rent it in its entirety through Netflix.

"YOU ARE NUMBER SIX!" Patrick MacGoohan is awesome in that.

Top 10 WORST GH Reveals (Not really in any order except # 1)

10. Savannah Ga. EVP.(3 words. Horror movie audio. 2 more words.Which movie?).

9. E.S.P. Shadow (Brian!Remember to wear LONG black socks & black shoes on your new show).

8. Brewery Shadow (Bobbles just above countertop level, running back behind the cabinet..must be drunk).

7. Gibbons House Shadow (1 word…Statue! Sorry 2 words…Statue. DUH!)

6. Timmy's Ball! (Oooh! It wavered. Obviously Timmy didn't
play soccer).

5. EVERY SHADOW NEVER CAUGHT ON THEIR THYROID ANALYZER.

4. Cold Spots! (ENOUGH SAID).

3. Crescent Hotel Thermal Image. The Ghost is wearing a baseball hat. Mustbe a Cub's fan…to the end!

2. Grant. Grant. Grant. Anytime he sees, feels, experiences something happening, especially in the dark, with lamp cords & picture frames.

And the # 1 WORST Reveal.

The Tate Murders. I was waiting for them to play RED LIGHT! GREEN LIGHT!

Y'know, if it is horror movie audio, the skeptics should have it ready to go. So where is it?

And doesn't anyone think that it's odd that they stand by the 'sheetie' clips? What would it hurt them to admit that they were hoaxed? After all, these are sooo obvious.

I also cannot understand their persistance in standing by that awful ESP sheet hoax. I mean, c'mon, when someone wants to do a gag ghost thing, what do they do? Put a sheet over themselves.

Speed it up, slow it down, at the turn a leg and sneaker are visible. Why do they cling to this obvious farce?

Bad acting segment: when everyone but Jason and Grant are standing outside a building in NYC with their equipment and "someone" picks up one of the cases and takes off with it. That "someone" is obviously Brian–same walk, height, build–and hero Steve gives chase. Brian puts down the case ever so gently (what robber would bother to do that???) and Steve is unable to catch the guy.

This was after Brian had elected to leave, I believe, which is why he was not part of the group that was waiting for something or other. Then Jay and Grant show up and tried to act surprised about what happened. Only they did a very poor job of it.

I know this has nothing to do with any of their paranormal goofs but I've never forgotten that bit. It was done so poorly. And why use Brian? We'll never know.
