GHI: Black Horse Inn

This was an interesting little investigation. There is only really one thing I think is worth mentioning, but it's a pretty big one. The Ghost Hunters International team apparently got the idea to use EMF detectors in a stationary position, not near anyone, as sort of an alarm. The detectors basically make a sound that gets higher pitched the higher the needle moves.

Well, they ended up asking questions like they normally would during an EVP session but what happened was the EMF detectors would go off, almost as if something was responding to them. According to what we see and what the GHI team reports, the detectors weren't going off randomly and seemed to go off only in response to one of the team members speaking elsewhere in the room. Robb specifically said he thought the timing was very impressive but he felt like he wouldn't be doing his job if he didn't check for some possible known source of EM interference, but he couldn't find any.

So, again we have evidence that is suggestive without coming close to conclusive — still, I'm very curious about how an EMF detector could go off in so regular a manner. The only way I would think it's possible would be a deliberate hoaxing by placing something nearby that emits electromagnetic waves only when a button is pressed on a remote. It could have been done by the camera guy who was in the room with them, who knows?

Now, true believers might say that *I* am really reaching with a supposed crew member rigging a remote control EM emitter to fake a "response" from a supposed spirit. That's absolutely fair, but I feel I wouldn't be doing *my* job if I didn't at least broach the possibility. If it were possible to prove that little hypothesis wrong then I would really be at a loss for how to explain the occurance, it was definitely some of the most impressive circumstantial evidence I've seen.

The mistake the true believers don't realize they are making is that they are the ones that are reaching.

It cannot be proven that a ghost caused that EMF to go off, and that's where belief comes in and the division between skeptics and believers begins.. again.

Even if Logisti's hypothesis is really reaching, it is not reaching as far as someone saying "Yep, a ghost caused that EMF to go off" because they are violating Occam's Razor while Logisti's hypothesis is not. Meaning, the TB's are assuming ghosts exists in the first place, which is unproven, then take it a step further and claim a ghost caused this or that.

If you don't know what caused something, then it doesn't default to a ghost/the paranormal, it's just unknown — period.

Hasn't TAPS themselves done that very same thing before though? Because they can't debunk it, it is therefore paranormal?

How many other logical fallacies has TAPS committed?

That whole EMF thing really set off my BS detector. Still, my biggest problem with this show (aside from the team members, but that is what it is) is everything seems so rushed. In this particular episode, it's like, "Hey! Look at us! We're communicating with a ghost! Well, let's pack up and move on."

And perhaps it's just me, but if I really believed I was communicating with a ghost/spirit, I could think of a lot more interesting questions than "Do you want to dance with Donna?".

Todd @ 9:29 am

The simple test would be to leave the EMF detector on for a 24 hour period and evaluate the environment (inside and outside) with a second EMF detector.

The only argument against Logisti that I would have (as feeble as it is) is that there is apparently video evidence taken of the table and surrounding area. While Pilgrim may not release that video, there would be evidence of planted items.

I'm not familiar with EMF detectors, but based on their use, their range is somewhat limited.

One curious thought: could there have been a blinking sign (neon for example) on the outside wall? This would have been a visual clue for the right time to ask a question.

And I am so waiting for the day for Robb to tell Brian and Barry that they are both full of masculine bovine excrement.

I think that the Black horse and the "ghost" of Will, was true. But having a convo with a "ghost" is out of normal. I heard the "Perhaps" by will. But I don't know if it was as "Perhaps" maybe it was. But, I'm not English, and if I know someone in England, which I do, they might tell me. Honestly, The Black Horse looks really good. Hey, If I was with the GHI, I'd be saying to Will: "Hey Will, I hope I'm not disturbing you but, touch me if you're there! but not my chest you perv." If he has dogs, and he does, I'll be saying "come here doggie!"

Michelle
i dont know if you can have a conversation with a ghost via a machine, but as i posted her before, my friend almost died and had a full conversation with his dead father. then during major surgery they talked again. at the same time, the surgeons noticed the OR got cold. OR's are usually cool, but these times were abnormally cold. and the guy isnt crazy either. in both cases he could have died and the docs still have no idea why he didnt.

the EMF thing didnt convince me 1 bit. GH used a similar thing during the Manson investigation.

bill kelly @ 11:37 am

please correct me if i'm wrong, but was it this episode or one week before but not posted here where they had like 3-4 EVPs and Robb told the guy the place was haunted?

on GH, didnt they always say EVPs are good, but dont prove hauntings?

Logisti @ 12:54 pm

To be fair, he didn't claim it was haunted based on the EVP, he based that decision on how impressed he was by the "conversation" after not finding any way to debunk it.

Also, while you are correct that they did have a similar "conversation" during the Manson Murders episode, in that case the EMF meter was being held in the hand of one of the investigators and could easily have been manipulated. In this case, the EMF meter was halfway across a room and no one was near it.

Of course, that doesn't mean it was impossible for someone to manipulate, but in the Manson Murders case all someone had to do was brush the power button (of that particular model EMF detector) gently with their thumb, while in this case it would seem someone would have to go to some fair amount of planning and difficulty to manipulate the meter.

CrowTRobot @ 4:07 pm

OK. I just can't let this go. (Logisti, you do a good job here and if you want me to STFU, just say so). All the 'investigators' on GH and GHI have claimed to be doing this to find answers. So alledgedly at the Inn, they are finally communicating with a spirit. Then proceed to ask stupid *** questions.

Here are a few suggestions, GHI, for questions:

Are you alone? Are you with others? Is there a God? Do you know yet if there is a Heaven? Hell? Did religion get those concepts right? Are all dead souls wandering the earth? Just certain ones? Are you able to communicate with other spirits? Relatives that have passed on? Do we have anything to fear?

OTOH, this could just be a TV show about annoying people stumbling in the dark, sprinkled with 'Most Haunted' special effects.

Logisti @ 5:45 pm

"OTOH, this could just be a TV show about annoying people stumbling in the dark…"

lol, I'm trying to imagine them using that in their pitch to the network. "…So the idea for the show is we're going to go to Europe, turn all the lights off and bump into walls. The kids will love it!"

CrowTRobot @ 9:44 pm

NETWORK: Ehhhh, I just don't see it.

PITCHMAN: Oh, it'll be great! You know all that ghost, spiritual, ufo, bigfoot, religious stuff is hot right now.

NETWORK: Yea, but what's the point? I mean, what are they suppose to be doing over there?

PITCHMAN: OK. Get this: We send them over to Europe to some haunted places to look for ghosts.

NETWORK: GHOSTS!?! Who in there right mind is…

PITCHMAN: Look. It worked with those plumbers in the suburbs. This can't miss.

NETWORK: I just don't….

PITCHMAN: We can send your nephew.

NETWORK: Andy? To Europe?

PITCHMAN: He'll be gone for months.

NETWORK: Della, get SciFi Network on the phone.

I have watched GHI from the beginning and was a little disturbed by the fact that Robb called most of the places they visited "haunted". I see finally he's starting to get away from that and say that there could basically be something there they just don't have enough proof to say haunted for sure.

I will agree they seemed rushed in all the places they've been. If they are so eager to debunk and investigate they should take their time and go slowly.

I love the original GH and would say without a doubt that I don't think Jason or Grant would lie or be deceitful in any of their investigations. They don't seem the type. What I love most about the show is you almost have to rip the word haunted out of Jason's mouth, he just doesn't call every place haunted.

JDP @ 11:16 pm

Well Lisa M Jason has been saying the "H" word a lot lately which is causing a change in the Ghost Hunters drinking game. I give TAPS this big benefit of the doubt they've been around longer that this show has and according to Jason even when the show is over TAPS will still be around.

I have pictures that can not be explained and very exciting. The Black Horse lives up to its hauntings I think
