PS: School House

In the past I haven't put up posts for episodes I didn't feel warranted a full write-up or just didn't have much to say on, but I've been seeing a lot of great conversations and I've decided to try and throw up posts even when I don't have a full write-up, so everyone has a place to discuss the episode.

I do have a couple of things to say about this episode of Paranormal State, however. Some people may have recognized the "client" appears to be none other than Shannon Sylvia, of Ghost Hunters International, formerly of New England Paranormal. Rather than jump to conclusions (believe me, I was all ready to call B*lls**t) I did a little digging and in fact it says right on her GHI Team Bio that she got interested in the paranormal because experiences in her own home — and yes, apparently New England Paranormal did conduct investigations there long before PRS came along.

Now for the second thing, I have the unexpected pleasure of saying there was some hilarious debunking done by Penn State's Paranormal Research Society. They called in this "Psychic" Shannon had previously consulted with and asked her to do another reading in the house. She have them almost an identical reading to the one she originally gave Shannon, except originally she said there was a woman named Jennifer and a little girl named Elizabeth but this time around she said she sensed a little girl named Jennifer and a woman named Elizabeth (or did I get that backwards?)

So, "Hah!" I say. Take better notes on your readings next time lady, you might be quizzed on them later — I mean, you might have to "sense" them again. Just to double-check they had the lady do a reading on Sergei and it seemed like every pitch she threw (I sense the name "Martha", Did you recently lose a pet?, even "Someone close to you needs glasses or contacts…") completely missed the strike zone. So much for that psychic.

Of course, there couldn't be an episode of Paranormal State where the house wasn't actually haunted — that would be bad — and indeed, Ryan claims to have heard a voice say "Katie" during an EVP session. The voice itself wasn't clear enough to understand on the recording (so it wasn't an EVP) but Shannon's husband conveniently received a phone call the next day from a girl named Katie who said she used to live in the same apartment and had similarly ghostly experiences.

The explanation of how Shannon's husband got in touch with Katie (someone he works with is married to a woman who is friends with Katie who had experiences in the same building) seems reasonable I suppose, but I'm not yet ready to rule out the possibility that the reason Ryan may have heard "Katie" is because someone in that room (not going to speculate who) who knew of this woman's existence actually said it under their breath.

Anyway, I won't bore you with further analysis. Feel free to add your own.

I guess you can disregard my post under "GHI: Premiere" about Shannon's cross appearance on PS. Thanks for digging up the story behind that Logisti; I had kind of wondered if her paranormal experiences had something to do with why she became an investigator.

Wasn't Keith, who comes in to do the house blessings also on GH at one point?

Logisti @ 5:37 pm

Keith and his twin brother Carl were in the opening credits (and on the show itself) as Demonologists during episodes of Ghost Hunters Season 1.

I think there are numerous site that say she has been 'haunted' or something since she was a child. So I would say she did both to be on TV. There have also been numerous stories publish about the Sylvias condo, has his co worker been under a rock to not know all the media attention their condo was getting.
I don't trust her. Ghost profiteer.

First, Kris Williams is a professional actress (www.imdb.com) and now Shannon is a client and an investigator. I love both shows, but something is beginning to smell.

I can see why people get all suspicious of Shannon here, but her backstory is that she got interested in ghosts because of stuff that happened in this house, and she's had lots of different investigator groups there. Not because she's showing off, because these groups are hungry for places to investigate that are confirmed by people they trust as credible

Personally, I never hear these "voices" they claim they capture because they have always have a special effects soundtrack playing. I enjoy the show but if they could cut back a bit on the hammy musical theatrics, I'd be less inclined to roll my eyes every time someone "hears" something.

Ok so I googled this Shannon Sylvia chick cause I watched GHI, and then happened to watch an old episode of Paranormal State and thought she looked familiar…and I stumbled upon this little rant site. I think that she is just out for alittle fame, before I knew she was on both shows, I remember watching her on GHI and thinking she was annoying and fake, she "felt touched" like every 3 seconds…and was just totally unbelieveable.

And another thing I learned from this site, Chris Williams is an actress, so I looked it up on imdb.com, and it's true!! What a crock!!! I don't really believe in these shows, but I always thought they were interesting to watch. But as I watch threw out the seasons, it seems like more "oh I thought I heard" and "Oh I was touched" happened more and more as the seasons/episodes progressed…which lead me to believe some producer is telling them to step it up for rating…well now finding out all this just furthers my dis-belief of these "happening".

Also, Grant and Jason of GH and Andy and Rob of GHI, little acts of "oh were just normal guys" blah blah blah…it's alittle too "selfless" I mean come on!! But I still love them, and I'll still watch their shows…I just find them hard to believe…

Oh ya, and I'm with Stephaine, I never seem to be able to hear the voices on the EVPs'…

OH WAIT, and one more thing. In the first few seasons, Grant and Jason hardly ever said "yes this place is haunted" and as the season progress I find them saying "yes definately this place is haunted" which I think is for rating. And I also notice the boys from GHI also confirming "yes this place is definately haunted" when I don't think they really present any good fake/or real (whatever) on the show, but it seems to be mostly "personal" experiences…at least make up some hard evidence before you "confirm" something.

I think it's all about rating rating rating…

Same goes for PRS…
