GH: The Presidio
All right, my faith has been momentarily restored. Not necessarily in TAPS but at least in this season of Ghost Hunters. This was a really great investigation pretty much all-around. The Presidio was an all-men's military officers' club and there are apparently two official military documents that state in no uncertain terms that well-respected officers are sure the place is haunted; That certainly makes for an interesting lead-in.
Among the phenomena reported are the scent of flowers coming from the viewing room where military men killed overseas would lay in state, along with the sound of weeping coming from the same area. There was also the smell of tobacco smoke reported in the lounge area as well as a tapping sound (likened to someone tapping their wedding ring) coming from a fireplace mantle. The main event is a supposed full-bodied apparition, apparently a woman in a spanish-styled dress, walking through the ballroom and out the door.
Right away Grant noticed a Janitor's closet off of the viewing room that was stocked with cleaning supplies and room deodorant — and was leaking a vaguely floral scent due to those contents. Nice, clean debunk. Next, they went into the lounge and noted that the room had been stripped down to the original wood during renovations (which is when the tobacco odor was first reported) and that if you scratch-n-sniffed the wood you could easily tell the room had been saturated with a lot of tobacco smoke and the scent was simply soaked into the wood. Another clean debunk.
Tango and Kris sat in the lounge later and made jibes about a woman being in this formerly all-men's club. They were sitting next to the fireplace and Tango urged any spirits who wanted Kris to leave to rap three times on the fireplace. He and Kris claimed they did in-fact hear a response, but it came from further down into the room where there was actually a second fireplace. The response was unverifiable as it was too faint to record, but they did not press the issue and assert this event as evidence. It is interesting though, because if the phenomenon was real it's entirely possible the guy who showed them around (who had not experienced it himself) pointed out the wrong fireplace. In any event, there is no evidence this occurred so let's move on.
When reviewing the evidence there was an EVP but it really could have been anything and again, the team did not force the issue. There was, however, two very interesting video clips of what appeared to be a dark figure of a woman walking through the ballroom. Now, the video was very clear and this would have been impressive except what wasn't entirely clear was whether the figure was freestanding or just a shadow cast on the wall from someone closer to the camera.
But yet again, they did not push the issue and Jason actually conceded the video might have been a shadow and he would not label the place as "haunted" with the evidence they collected. So in the end some interesting stuff happened and some interesting stuff was recorded, but no outrageous claims were made and everyone walked away happy. This is the Ghost Hunters we know and love. Welcome back!

It was a good episode. I'm very glad that they acknowledged the shadow possibility– at least on initial viewing, the apparition certainly seemed to move in sync with Steve.

After a discussion on one of the forum threads, I went back and watched this episode again, and was surprised by what we let them get away with a few short years ago.
Grant tells the client that " we have one real solid piece that could be something ( garbled ) but I wouldn't say 100% ". The client takes this and says that it verifies what people have seen.
Jason does a little epilogue where he says " for all we know that could have been IR shadowing "
??? … " for all we know " ?? It's a GH investigation, with GH people and GH equipment and they are presenting as any sort of evidence an event that they have a suspicion that they themselves might have created ?
Grant had covered himself with the "but I wouldn't say 100%" – wonder what he would say … 90% ? 80%? or 10% ?
